Nuclear Safeguards and Nonproliferation Support

New Brunswick Laboratory (NBL) is owned and operated by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). NBL is the U.S. Government's Certifying Authority for nuclear reference materials and a Center of Excellence in the measurement science of nuclear materials. NBL provides "expert technical support" in the areas of nuclear material safeguards and nuclear material measurement. NBL provides assistance with the development and implementation of Material Control and Accountability (MC&A) policies at DOE/HQ, Operations and Field Offices and DOE/NNSA contractor facilities. Examples of assistance include training, safeguards and security survey/inspection support, assistance with internal reviews, and professional assistance to resolve unique problems. To obtain assistance, send requests to the NBL Director through your DOE Operations or Field Office. NBL also provides a staff cadre for a DOE Anomaly Response Team (DART) that, often on short notice, independently investigates, evaluates, and reports findings related to events/conditions that could potentially indicate the loss of control of nuclear materials, such as inventory or shipper-receiver differences.
